Personal Assistant

  • Hours : 9 hour post may be split over 2 days, occasional weekend work required
  • Pay : £12 per hour
  • Location : Carnoustie

David is looking for a Personal Assistant to join his small team, he is a very welcoming person, despite his severe learning difficulties. He is shy and can be anxious at times. He likes to know that you like him and it helps if he has constant affirmation.

David likes “Super Heroes” such as The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Hercules and often mimics the characters. David loves music and watching DVDs, using the computer to look up his favourite musicals on Utube and going to the theatre. He also likes to go swimming and play racquet sports such as badminton and squash at his local gym. He enjoys “days out” – e.g. going on the train to Edinburgh to see a show or exhibition.

David needs support with managing Type 1 Diabetes, including blood testing and giving insulin as necessary. He also has problems with his skin which he needs support with.

David’s speech is poor and sometimes it is difficult to understand what he is trying to tell you and this needs patience and sensitivity. He needs to do things in his own time without feeling pressurised as this can also lead to him feeling stressed. David has been diagnosed with arthritis in his lower back. He needs support when out walking and the best option is always to do things at David’s pace.

Experience of diabetic care preferred although training will be provided. Car driver preferred and past experience of supporting people in the community would be an advantage.
